Laundry/Mudroom Makeover

About a year and a half ago, we built in a mudroom storage bench area. We use it daily and love having a place to put our shoes on and toss our bags as we walk in the door. I recently gave it a fresh coat of paint as it’s been showing some wear and tear:) Then in March of last year we painted our laundry cabinets a pretty blue color. I still love how those turned out. We’ve wanted to “finish” the room up lately and did a few small projects to really bring it to life. Here is the “before” picture right after we painted the cabinets.

I’m sad to share that we had to put our dog down last month. It was a very difficult decision but one we had to make for him and our family. We used to keep a space for him in this room but have replaced that with a barstool and filled his cabinet with other supplies:( We will always miss him!

We painted the walls to match the main area of our house, a pretty, very light gray. We added a fun wood wall treatment behind the laundry area and made a vintage clock {tutorial coming on that!}.

I found the wood crate at Hobby Lobby on sale. We needed something to hide our internet base and home security base. It was brown so I did a quick dry brush of an antique white color and it popped off the wood counters. The burlap flowers are from Hobby Lobby and the gold sea urchin {from Target} and candles we had on hand.

I painted the door to the garage black last year which helps hide dirt and scratches. It also is a nice accent to all the light colors in the space.

The antlers were passed over to us by family:)

mudrrom rugThe rug was a recent Home Depot clearance find. It’s an indoor/outdoor rug {which is the kind we also have in our entry way}. They are perfect for wiping dirty shoes on and hiding it well!

laundry room rugThe barstool is from Target as well and is a pretty charcoal color. It’s a nice spot to sit and fill out a note or organize mail.

laundry rugI whipped up that little “Note to Self” sign last week while watching a movie with Mike. I had the board on hand and painted it with leftover chalk paint from our kitchen island makeover. I used my Silhouette for the lettering {I made a stencil} and then super glued a white board on it, which I also had on hand. It’s the perfect spot to leave a reminder for myself as I walk out the door in the morning. This note is to remind myself to leave a check for our cleaning lady-I’m back to work today after spending the summer with my babies. Bittersweet!

Note to Self boardThe welcome sign was a knock-off from a sign I saw on Joss and Main last year. It’s very fitting for our house in the country. And I love the pretty peak of our half bath as you walk in the door.

laundry room overview

What’s your favorite part? Do you have a great laundry room or mudroom to share? I’d love to see it!

  1. Tried to leave a novella comment but won’t let me!!

  2. I don’t have a laundry room but I
Have a laundry dungeon. I have a mudroom but it’s a catchall for catching all crap… so I’ll just drool over yours. Your space is very zen like, must feel like doing laundry in an upscale spa..and oh the stories I can see and tell…. I can see you and me, kicking it ole school, sitting on those pretty stools, mud mask on and a deep conditioner in our hair, wait.. hold on… is that your load or mine buzzing?…nope it’s yours, we laugh….. then you take out the fresh clean laundry that smells of a spring morning… crisp and fresh…and let it “rest” before folding it…we go back to facials, rinsing and scrubbing a squeakily clean and moisturized, glowing skin…ughhh… hang on… it’s mine this time..I not so gingerly hobble over to the washing machine to remove the fresh, sanitized load of sweet smelling morning dew towels, bomb them in the dryer while you throw another load in. We laugh… we need more wine… you refill, we have enough time inbetween loads for a mini pedicure…soak them footsies…then paint our toenails… I awe and ohhh over your color choice and you smirk
At mine…saying well…. I mean Red issss for ” A working woman or a woman of the evening”! We laugh, we need more wine… I pluck
Your eyebrows with a little more plucking power just to let you know I am not a “working girl” you yell ok ok I’m sorry…. we laugh, I then pluck nicely and leave your brows intact… omg wait… holy poop, this is a laundry room, not a spa! Yeah well who could blame me for getting the two confused! I’d certainly be doing laundry like all the time, probably set up
My bed, move in a little at a time… but I really liked our story… well it was fun to spend a spa/laundry day with you… I had a good time! Lmfao… sorry I have chores to do and I don’t want to do them but if I look busy like typing then they all think I’m working soooo hard.. so my mind wanders… cool room though! Nice job!
