Antique Hutch

On one of Mike’s days off in July we decided to take a family antiquing trip. Molly actually loves to go to antique shops, funny enough. She loves digging through all that old stuff and actually pulls out some good finds. The shop owners all love her because she will find something and say, “Mommy, this one is beautiful!” or “Mommy, this one is my favorite!” It’s pretty cute:) We were searching for some pieces to go on our open shelves above our kitchen cabinets and stumbled across a gorgeous antique hutch. It was pricey and not on our shopping list but Mike and I both really loved it. Later that night I told him we should go back in a couple months and see if it was still there. That sweet husband of mine decided a few days later that I should have it so he went and scooped it up as a surprise anniversary gift {which he’ll probably try and count for my birthday, Christmas…:)}. I was so surprised-it was a great gift. We cleared out space in our dining room and put a few fun finds on it. I’d still like to add more pieces to it but already love all the character it adds to our house. And that ladder…

hutch 5Isn’t it beautiful? The distressed black paint, planked back of the shelves, the cool pull-out shelves for serving. It’s all my favorite. I can’t remember where I read or heard this but I’ve heard you should have at least one “old” piece in each space to really give a house some character and charm and I totally agree. It makes your home feel less like a Target or Hobby Lobby ad and makes it feel more lived in. We’ve tried to spread some pieces that we love throughout our home and I think they work really well.

Do you ever dig through antique stores?

  1. Love this, Jessie! Did the ladder come with the hutch? Or did you purchase this separately and attach…if so, how?
