DIY Upholstered Bed Frame

Time for part II! If you missed how to make the headboard, you can check it out here. Today I’m going to share how to make the frame. It’s very simple and inexpensive and makes a great statement in the room.

DIY Upholstered Bed Frame TutorialTo make the bed you will need the following:

  • 2 sheets of plywood. Cuts:
    • the side pieces are 15″ tall by 80″
    • the bottom pieces that the mattress lays on are cut to fit in the outer frame
  • 1 2″x4″ board
  • Fabric {mine was a curtain from Target}
  • ledger board
  • Nailheads
  • Staple gun
  • Drill

Mike had the nice people at Home Depot cut all the plywood to size which saved us time {they do it for free!}. Mike started by attaching a piece of ledger board to the plywood sides. This is what the other plywood will sit on that eventually hold the box springs and mattress.

I stained the legs after Mike attached them.

On the front edges, I cut the fabric to end and then added the nailhead to hide the seams.

The last step was to put the two pieces of plywood on the braces inside the frame. Mike also put some legs under the plywood sheets to keep them sturdy.
