House Tour-Kitchen

I’m back! It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks moving in and checking lots of items off our giant to-do list. I’m on fall break the next two weeks so no work=lots of time with Mike and Molly and working during naps so hopefully I will be able to give lots of blog updates as well! When we work in the evenings when Molly goes to bed it’s hard to find time to write about it too. I have been trying to take pictures of some of our projects so I will have tutorials coming, I promise! Today I’m going to give you a quick tour of the kitchen. Keep in mind everything is still in-progress so there is still trim to do, areas to paint, shelves to add, etc.  Also, Pudge just got a hair cut and thinks he looks so good he needed to sneak in every picture:)

I love how this space turned out. On either side of the window there will eventually be some chunky wood shelves so you can see why the upper cabinets end where they do. We will do a subway tile backsplash {like our old house} and a different tile surrounding the pot filler. Oh, how I love this pot filler. I wish I could hug the inventor. He did good.

The island is another favorite area of mine. It’s huge. It’s 8′ long. Molly and I have sat on it to sing songs-it’s fun. The countertop is called Milky Way suede granite. I searched high and low for the perfect counter and think we found it. My dream would be soapstone but with the price tag and extra maintenance and care you have to take, I knew a granite alternative would be better.  The milky way granite is black with a white veining through it-very similar to soapstone. We got the counter in a the suede finish for a little something extra unique-I love the texture and matte finish on it.

It’s wonderful. Our other counters are quartz-Atlantic Salt and we ordered through Ikea during their 20% off sale. All the countertop places we looked at were shocked that Ikea sells quartz and said the kind we got is actually pretty expensive so I think we got a great deal through them.

Speaking of Ikea, so far I love the cabinets. They are so functional and soft close drawers and doors are amazing. Molly can’t hurt a thing:) Simple things like pull-out drawers in the all the cabinets make it easy to get to everything we need. I love them.

My double oven is another thing I big puffy heart love {ignore my wrinkly hand towel}. How can you go wrong with two ovens?

We are really happy with everything so far. Obviously we still need to finish the toe-kicks on the island, add our open shelves, put on the crown molding on the cabinets, and do something pretty with that window but so far it’s pretty awesome. I love having that huge window to look out over our property. You get to see things like these gorgeous deer while cooking dinner:)

So what do you think of the kitchen space?

  5. Beautiful and may I ask where you got the chairs for your island? They are gorgeous!

    • Hi Debbie! I ordered them online from Target. They aren’t available in this exact fabric anymore but they do have the same style. We love them!

  6. Hi, I love your kitchen. Did you finish the toe kicks on the island? That is the last piece to our kitchen and we are a bit lost at how to do it. I’d love any tips you can give!

  1. […] The molding really makes the island look custom-built and fancies up the Ikea cabinetry. We have a few more finishing touches in the kitchen and then I’ll give an updated room reveal. You can see how it looked after we moved in here. […]

  2. […] we designed our Ikea kitchen ago, we were very happy with the layout. Once we installed it, there was a slight gap {which we had […]
