Living Room Furniture Update

One of the main steps in cozying up our living room was furniture. You know the thought process on why we chose leather, but let me give you a little info that helped us chose our specific couches. We talked to a woman at Kittles, who we thought was very honest with us the whole time we worked with her. She gave us some really great insight into choosing furniture. A few “insider tips” she gave us really made us think before pulling the trigger. When looking at price points and quality of furniture, she let us know that most furniture is meant to last 5-10 years. That’s it. Back in the day, furniture manufacturers made furniture to last more like 20 years, then realized that people would only be buying furniture every 20 years. So, they lessened their quality so people would have to buy furniture more frequently. Not great for us, but good to know when searching for furniture. Keeping that in mind, we bought what I would consider mid-range furniture. Not super expensive, but not cheap either. We chose couches that we felt that the cost matched the 5-10 year time frame. They also came with a 5-year scratch, tear, rip, stain warranty where any or all of either couch will be replaced if anything happens. Another bonus. I am well aware that dark brown leather couches aren’t super stylish these days, but we are loving the comfort and ease of cleaning that comes with them. With a dog who lives on the couch and a baby on the way, that was our priority. Ok, so long story not-so-short, here is our new furniture:) There is still more accessorizing and additions coming, so keep that in mind!
The dark brown is a definite change from our light and airy slipcovered furniture, but I think it will look great once the rest of the makeover in this room is done. We also love the practicality of it-easy to clean, and forgive me if I sound like an 80-year old, but recliners are the bomb {the two end seats on the couch below recline}. Soooo comfortable. Mike and I are in couch laziness heaven.
And this is the view of our living room when you walk in our front entry. We only lost one seat when we switched over, but our living room is so much more open. We feel like we have a lot more space.
Get ready for a big makeover on that main wall:)
So what do you think? Are you a comfort or style person when it comes to choosing furniture? Anyone else surprised on the 5-10 year lifespan?

I love the new couches and cannot believe how much bigger your living room looks! I can just visulize sweet baby girl Hyde having all that extra floor space to play!
