Mission Organization Update: The Garage
| July 20, 2012 | Posted by Jessie under Garage, Organization |
Happy Friday everyone! I’m so excited to share a Mission Organization update with you all today: the garage.
Let me start with the before. It had gotten bad. Really bad. We got free cabinetry from Mike’s work last month and left them stacked in the garage for way too long. You literally couldn’t walk in that area of the garage {luckily, it’s the 3rd car area that we don’t use}. The poor air conditioning repair man had to come a couple weekends ago and couldn’t even get to the breaker because it was blocked by too much crap! Let me show you the awful before pics.
Ok, I think you get the point. We have a lot of crap. It’s all useful crap and we can build something like no one’s business out there, but the layout was cramped and organization was lacking. I can verify {after installing cabinets in the laundry room and creating nooks in our closet} that the saying “a place for everything and everything in its place” really works. Create somewhere to store stuff and it magically will stay there. So we installed a whole set of upper cabinets and reorganized the whole workshop side of the garage.
Much better, right? We installed the cabinets above what is now a giant L-shaped work bench. We are thinking about cutting the peg board that used to hang near the freezer and making it a backsplash-type thing where we could hang tools above the benches out of the way. We are leaving the table saw in the middle for now but that will get moved to against the garage door soon once we purge a few more things:) I know it may not look perfectly organized at the moment {but it’s a million times better!} because we are currently working on about 4 different projects out there that are taking up some space. We used the old wire shelves from our closet to store all of our scrap wood.
One more quick before and after:
It’s much easier to work out there when you can actually walk through the space:) What have you organized lately? Anyone else use a large amount of your garage as a workshop? Excited to see what all our projects are out there?
