Laundry Room To-Do
| May 30, 2012 | Posted by Jessie under Inspiration, Laundry |
As you know, I’m off work for the summer {woohoo!} and I have written a long to-do list for myself. I have a room makeover on the list and it is much needed…the laundry room. I hesitate to show you these disastrous “befores” so please don’t bash us too hard:) Our laundry room is right by the door that we walk in from the garage so it has become the dumping ground for anything and everything we don’t want to walk any further to put away. My wedding dress is still hanging in there…from 3 years ago. Believe it or not, I probably clear this room out every few months {clearly not enough}, but somehow it always ends up looking back like this:
Embarrassing, huh? Well I’m proud to say I spent a couple hours yesterday clearing this room out. I took 3 bags of trash out, put everything else where it belongs in the house, and deep cleaned this room. I swept, mopped, and even pulled out the machines and cleaned behind them. Impressive, I know:) So here is our blank slate now…
Yay! Sooooo much better. It feels 100 times bigger and more open. Now onto the makeover plan. Let me share the to-do list and then I’ll give you the specifics:
- paint walls
- paint and install cabinets
add rug- add art
- create hanging space for mop, broom, spider web remover thingy
- add drying area
- remove wire shelving
- paint folding table counter
I have some fun art work planned using old cabinet doors. We scored free cabinetry, one set if uppers and one set of lowers, that will fit perfectly in here. With a little paint and hardware, they will look brand new. For some inspiration and specifics on what we’re going for, let me start off by sharing the color scheme I have planned. I’m excited to go for something a little different in here. I’m thinking a deep gray color for the cabinets. Something like these:
I stopped and pick up some samples from Home Depot yesterday and I’m leaning towards Behr’s Elephant Skin if that gives you a better idea of the color. For the wall color, I want something light and airy, but not too bright. Something soft. I’m thinking a very pale aqua/sea foam color. Something like these walls:
I tried to search around for a picture that showed my overall color scheme and this kitchen was the best I could do. The fridge door is about the color of the cabinets and the cabinets in this picture are about the color of the walls.
Pretty, right? I’m really excited about it. I’ve made one purchase already. I bought a rug from Target yesterday that goes in front of the washer and dryer. Here’s a sneak peak:
It reads more brown and blue in this picture but it’s actually the deep gray that I’m going for and should work perfectly with the rest of the room. I hope to get started on painting the cabinets this week and get this room moving along!

I have a laundry room that looks very similar to that. Its a disaster area! I am looking forward to see your makeover, I love the color choices you have made!
Thanks, Morgan! How is that the laundry room becomes a dumping ground? I just picked up a paint sample so I’m excited to get started:)
Jessie! that looks very clean and fun! I agree love your color choices and love that pull out drying rack! I ended up getting some great baskets on sale at Target for my new laundry room at the cottage. They have erasable chalk board pieces on them so that you can change the contents! I will have enough room in there for a stool which will be nice to sit and fold clothes. I am looking for an industrial type stool like you see at Restoration Hardware. Check out that flea market in Shelbyville you can find some great decorating pieces!I actually found an authentic school light for my mudroom! have fun!
Thanks, Susan! Your baskets sound really cute! I can’t wait to come visit when it’s all finished:)
wow !! I am sure it will look great! ok now go and get it finished cause i am waiting in anticipastion and can hardly stand it.!! (and yes i am sitting down) haha. No really, can’t wait to see what it will look like. I need to redo mine but just don’t have the gumption to do it. I have a million and one things going on in my head and just don’t know where to start.
Aw thanks, Lori! You’ll be happy to know I started today! Hopefully I’ll have some updates to share next week:)
