Fireplace Inspiration

Mike and I have been tossing around the idea of revamping our fireplace lately so I thought I would throw some inspiration out to the world. Just as a reminder, here’s what our fireplace currently looks like:
Builder grade boring is probably the best description. I can’t tell you how many houses I’ve seen this exact fireplace in. There is nothing wrong with it {so don’t take offense if you have this same one:)}, besides the fact it’s lacking any personality and originality. So, of course we’re going for an overhaul to make it more “our style.” We’re thinking a chunky wood mantle, but with a modern twist to still fit the feel of the house.
Here are some beauties that I’m loving {side note: if you want to pin any of these images, click on the source below first to give the original credit!}. How cool is this concrete surround. Imagine some warm wood framing that out. Oooo la la.
This next one is a DIY version made of new wood that was roughed up to look old and worn. Turned out great!
I’ve always loved Layla and Kevin’s fireplace. The best of both worlds.
My favorite fireplace. Layla and Kevin created this for a house on their HGTV pilot show and it is gorgeous. Just the style we are thinking.
Mike has been doing some research {a.k.a. Youtube watching} on hand hewn mantle making and he seems to think he may be able to pull it off. The plan would be to snatch some wood up from the cabin and create a chunky, rustic mantle out of it. Anyone ever attempted this before? Think we’re crazy? Love the look as much as us?
Have a wonderful weekend!

We have the same fireplace, except with terracotta orange tiles, and I would love to do something rustic with it. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours!
