DIY Gift Bag Tutorial

This coming Saturday my mom will be hosting a bridal shower with a few of her other friends and she enlisted my help to create some gift bags for the guests to take home. She found this amazing woman in our hometown who makes wonderful smelling lotions, hand sanitizers, and lip balm from goats milk. Mom ordered one of each item to give at the shower with the bride’s name and wedding date printed on the label. They are really cute and smell great. The bride’s wedding colors are bright blues and greens so this is what we came up with:
I used muslin fabric to create the bags to keep costs down. I was able to make 12 bags for $2.00 {and had to make 35 for the shower}. I started by cutting the fabric into long strips-the total size cut was 5″ x 16″-and pinned them. Actually, Mike kindly helped me pin them to save some time. He’s so sweet:)
Then I sewed a seam down both sides, leaving the top open.
The last sewing step was to hem the unfinished top. Then we were ready to stuff them. We used tissue paper in bright blue and green to add some color to the bags.
Since we are having the shower at the winery/restaurant where we hosted a shower last fall, we are doing a little wine theme for this shower also. We decided to tie the bags closed with twine and a wine cork. Mike drilled holes through all the wine corks and we strung some twine through once with a needle.
Then strung the twine back through again.
Then tied them up nice and pretty:)
And that’s it. Wine-themed gift bags for about $0.17 a bag.

Adorable! I don’t know what impresses me more- the bags themselves (awesome!) or the fact that a guy helped you. Incredible!
