Ikea Round-Up and a New Light!

This weekend we took off to Cincinnati with some friends for some shopping, good food, and a Foreigner concert. We had a great weekend, but I have to say the highlight for me {besides watching 60 year old men rock out in their skinny jeans and long hair} was the shopping. The first stop we made was at Ikea, where Mike and I wanted to look at some dining chairs, lighting, and rugs. Although we didn’t end up buying any chairs for the kitchen yet, we think we found the style we are going for. I couldn’t find the Ikea one we liked online, but it was sort of a cross between these two {from Target}:
Something upholstered, that’s large, and possibly has arms. There is a furniture store here in Indy that Mike knows the owners of and we can get a great discount from, so we are going to just head there and see if we can find something similar. Even though we didn’t walk away with any chairs, we did make a few purchases. One was this great, neutral, cozy rug.
I have already revamped it and added some style to it, but you’ll have to wait til tomorrow for a peek at that:)
In lighting news, we found a couple options to hang over the island. Right now, we just have recessed lighting in the kitchen {besides over table} and I’d like to add some task lighting as well. Mike wants to look into how to change a recessed light to a pendant before making any purchases {any tips?} but here are a couple that caught our attention:
We did make a purchase for the dining room from the lighting department. This great Ottava style:
Just a reminder of the beatiful “boob” light that previously lighting the room:
And now with our new Ikea barn-style light:
We like that it isn’t too big so that it doesn’t take away from our pretty table and oversized accessories in the room. It also fits with the rustic vibe in the room perfectly. Unfortunately the light bulb that we bought from Ikea doesn’t work, so we had to put in a bulb we had on hand. Since Ikea is an hour and a half away, I’m going to give them a call and see if we can get it replaced without driving all the way back over there.
What do you think of our new light? Should we raise it higher {we can’t decide-higher would spread the light more, but like the look of where it hangs now}? Anyone buy anything fun this weekend?

Love the light! I agree, I like the lower look, but higher would def spread the light and soften it a bit… Guess it depends how often u think you will use the light. With the window you probably get a lot of natural light?
Boob light.. now that’s funny–we only have two and they’re in our master closet.. But even in there I don’t like them… would like to switch them for the light that you made with the rope… simple and easy on the budget…
[...] relax every once and awhile:) Remember a few weeks ago when we went to Ikea and bought our new dining room light? Well, we also picked up a new rug to put under our kitchen table {after all the switcheroos}. [...]
I love the table, I love the light, and I’m really loving the wall piece. Did you make that? Would you share some information on it? Or, if you’ve already posted about it, would you point me in that direction?
Thanks.
Hi Sue! Thanks:) We found this barn door in a dumpster {and cleaned it very well, of course} and added some shelves to it. You can read more about it here: http://imperfectlypolished.com/2011/09/26/barn-door/
