2012 Goals

I promised you last week I’d share some house goals for the year and today’s the day I’m putting it out there.  If you read my Farewell 2011 post, you read how Mike and I write down a list of a few attainable, important goals for ourselves and family for the year and hang it in our closet.  It’s nice to have something on paper that you see daily to keep you motivated to work towards those goals.  It’s a good way to keep yourself accountable.  That being said, I’m writing down some home goals for the year right here and will probably not look at them again until the end of the year.  I’m a hypocrite like that:)  Honestly, these are areas of our home we’ve talked about and would like to work on this year, but it’s hard to say what direction we’ll go.  K?  Onto the list of things we’d like to complete, but may or may not actually get to…

Last year we checked off the kitchen, dining room, living room, master bedroom, and loft.  For the most part, those rooms are “complete”, but here are a few additions/updates I’m hoping to make this year {click on images for source}:

Obviously the first project is our closet.  Here’s an in-process sneak peak…

Can’t wait to share the rest next week!

Round kitchen table {I’m putting Mike on this building project}.  This is my inspiration:

I’m almost finished making some dining room slipcovers like this:

Now for a new room…

Laundry Room.  We’re hoping to score some free cabinetry and possibly some countertops from a source Mike knows in a couple months, and whether or not that goes through, we’re tackling the laundry room this year.  I’d like to create a folding center and some fun, functional shelving.  I’d also like to do a funky floor treatment but we’ll see how that goes.  Something like this gorgeous room:

This year I’d also like to move our focus outside.  Our landscaping can definitely use some updating.  I want something simple, clean, and as low maintenance as possible.  Do they make plants that don’t grow?  Because that would be sweet.  I hate trimming bushes.  Ugh.

We’re also going to work on some sort of outdoor kitchen area.  We have an entire 7′ long concrete countertop that was leftover from our kitchen.  The one we are going to use outside wasn’t quite as perfect as we had hoped so we repoured and used the new one in the kitchen and are saving this one for an outdoor area.  I think it will work great in something like this:

Other than those projects, I’m unsure what we’ll end up doing this year.  I like to set goals, but I also like to sit back and see what inspiration, needs, and wants pop up throughout the year.

Personally {well, blog personally}, I’m also hoping to get better at the whole social media side of this blog world {speaking of, you can follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest if you want:)}, reach out and make some new bloggy friends, and learn more about the techie stuff that goes into this blog.

What goals do you have this year?  Any big projects planned?  I’d love to hear!

  1. My two main focuses for this year is the family room and my studio. One would hope that that won’t take all year but… I get distracted easily. :) But it’s very much a need to get those two rooms in order so I’m motivated.

  2. Angela Jones says:

You have absolutely inspired me to set some goals for 2012! They are not remodeling but cleaning goals! Clean out and organize our master closet and our nasty basement! I do believe in miracles and I am so hoping these two will come true; lol! Thanks for the goal setting idea; I like that so much better than a New Year’s resolution!

  3. Found you through the Nesting Place party. Love your inspiration photos and am looking forward to seeing your projects.
