Fall Monogram

We tackled all kinds of projects over the weekend that I can’t wait to share with you but I thought I would start the week off with a simple monogram art.
We stopped by the monthy Goodwill 1/2 off sale {in search of something else that we didn’t find} and I grabbed up this decorative picture frame.
I started out by taking apart the frame. It had a layer of brown paper on the back, the glass, and a few layers in between.
Then I started painting the frame with some gray acrylic paint I had, leaving some of the gold showing through for a little aged look.
Once the paint dried, I stapled some scrap burlap to the back.
Then I searched the house for a piece of wood to make a monogram on. I ended up finding this piece of melamine board {leftover from our countertop forms} that Mike cut down for me.
I painted the melamine with another gray color {a sample can leftover from our bedroom search} and then hand drew an H on top. You can see it took me a couple tries to get it centered on the board where I wanted it. The mistake marks aren’t a problem because I just painted back over them with the gray I initially used to paint the board and they were invisible:) You could always make a stencil or use a vinyl machine if you have one.
Then I painted the H in with another leftover tan gray sample from our bedroom.
I also had a pack of fall leaves from the Dollar Tree that I attached to the corners with glue dots.
Lastly, I attached the monogram wood block with a piece of fabric leftover from a dress I made {coming soon!}. I simply stapled it to the top of the frame and on the back of the block.
This can really go anywhere in your house, but since I hadn’t made a wreath or any door decor yet, I decided to hang it on my wreath hook on the front door. Side note-ignore our ugly brown door and gold hardware-we’re working on a plan for all that.
This is a fall-themed monogram but you could obviously leave the leaves off if you wanted or, since they are adhered with glue dots and it has a neutral color palette, simply swap them out with other seasonal accessories {snowflakes, flowers, etc.}. Super simple and pretty. Total cost: $2.50. Even better.
